Able Seafarer Engine

Able Seafarer Engine

The Able Seafarer Engine is a rating qualified with the provisions of regulation III/5 of the STCW Code as amended in 2010. Duties involved as Able Seafarer Engine or AB Engine include, but are not limited to, marine engineering operations at the support level.

This course is for individuals looking for a non-U.S. license, as it is not a USCG-approved course.

(This STCW course is approved by the Dominica Maritime Administration.)

This course covers the theoretical and practical knowledge required for the STCW rating of an Able Seafarer Engine under Regulation III/5.

Duration
This online course is based on a 40 hour in-person course.

DOMINICA
This course meets the mandatory minimum requirements for the knowledge, understanding and proficiency in Table A-III/5 of STCW Code at the Support Level, for Able Seafarer Engine rating, including: 

  • Function 1: Marine Engineering at the Support Level 
  • Function 2: Electrical, electronic and control engineering at the support level 
  • Function 3: Maintenance and repair at the support level 
  • Function 4: Controlling the operation of the ship and care for persons on board at the support level

Assessments

Written Examination
The written exam can be taken online through HALO° Exams. You will receive 3 attempts for your exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must pay a retake fee of $50.00. 

Practical Assessment
The mandatory assessments supplied in the course must be completed and signed off by an STCW licensed Chief Engineer/Second Engineer onboard a vessel of 500 Gross Tons or more using the NEMO° approved Training Record Book. Upon completion of your assessments, please ensure that you have successfully uploaded the Training Record Book into your NEMO course.
