NEMO°

NEMO° is an online learning system offering courses and licensing solutions for mariner across the globe. NEMO° transports the traditional classroom directly to your digital device, allowing you to take courses at your own pace. Written exams can be taken online using our exam monitoring software, HALO° Exams. For more information about HALO° Exams, please visit: https://www.halo-exams.com. 

Yes. Most courses delivered through NEMO° include auditory and visual aids to assist the text passages, as well as increased contrast within the course for an accessible learning experience.

 For best operating results, Google Chrome is recommended. Other browsers such as Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer may be used, however functionality may be limited. If you experience any difficulties with one of these browsers, please contact our direct support line.

Yes. NEMO° requires you to have internet while you go through the course so you must be connected to internet/wifi during use. However, you may download any additional resources available for your course for offline use.

  1. If using an iPad or Tablet, it is recommended that you switch to Desktop and Chrome Browser. 
  2. If using Desktop, it is recommended that you switch to the Chrome Browser.

Please refer to the recommended configuration for NEMO. The Quiz should register completion in this configuration.

To save your progress within a course successfully, exit the course by clicking on the yellow colored “X” present on the top right corner of your course screen.

Please make sure that you are using the recommended configuration for NEMO (as discussed above under the question “What device settings are recommended?”). Using the recommended configuration will ensure that your Quizzes register as “Complete” and record accurate scores.

Licensing

Visit the “Careers” tab for information regarding the licensing process. Our Career Tracks are designed to help you figure out what license you should pursue and what the requirements are to obtain that license. In addition, the Licensing and Certification page will walk you through the process of applying for your license after you complete your courses. 

That’s a great question! Before purchasing a course, ensure that you are buying the correct version you need for your license. 

  • USCG Approved courses qualify you for a Merchant Mariner Credential, which is regulated by the United States Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center. This license can be used for work on vessels registered in the United States, such as those registered with the USCG’s National Vessel Documentation Center (NVDC). Those who take USCG Approved courses with Northeast Maritime Institute also qualify for a Commonwealth of Dominica mariner license and may apply for one here
  • Dominica Maritime Administration Approved courses follow the International Maritime Organization’s Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) and qualify you for a Commonwealth of Dominica mariner license which is recognized by other flag administrations globally. After completing your courses, you can apply for your license here. Northeast Maritime Institute is the approved training provider for the Commonwealth of Dominica Maritime Administration. 
  • Marine Radio Licensing courses fall under both USCG Approved and Dominica Approved but have been categorized separately for your convenience. 
  • Tonga Approved courses are for Tongan citizens seeking to obtain credentials. Our Tonga training packages qualify mariners for a Commonwealth of Dominica mariner license. If you are a Tongan citizen looking for a mariner’s license, please visit this page to learn more.
