Ship Security Officer

Ship Security Officer

All mariners who hold a license level of Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch must comply with table A-VI/5 in the Standards for Training, Certification of Watchkeeping (STCW) Code and in A/2.1.6 of the International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS) in order to qualify for the rating of Ship Security Officer.

(This STCW course is approved by the Dominica Maritime Administration.) This course is not currently approved by the USCG.

Learners who successfully complete the course of Ship Security Officer will meet the standards of competency as specified in Table A-VI/5 of the STCW Code, as amended, and meet the responsibilities as defined in section A/2.1.6 in the ISPS Code.

Duration
This online course is based on a 24 hour in-person course.

Assessments

Written Examination
This course consists of one written exam: Ship Security Officer. This exam contains 20 questions and requires a 70% passing score. The written exam can be taken online through HALO° Exams. You will receive 3 attempts for your exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must pay a retake fee of $50.00.
