This online program includes all required course theory through presentations, reference material, videos and quizzes in the subject areas of Basic Marine Firefighting, Personal Survival Techniques, Elementary First Aid and Personal Safety & Social Responsibility.

The course includes First Aid/CPR training, Personal Survival Techniques training, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities review and Basic Firefighting practical exercises. Students are responsible for their own transportation to the fire academy. More information will be provided to you upon registration into the course.

This course is a review of the four parts of Basic Training. This course includes a review of Basic Firefighting, PST, PSSR and Elementary First Aid to prepare you for your refresher exams.

Learning Objectives
Any applicant who has successfully completed the Basic Training Refresher course will satisfy the continued competency requirements for STCW Basic Training in STCW, as amended 2010, Basic Training in Section A-VI/1.

This online course is based on a 24 hour in-person course.

Approvals

USCG
Any applicant who has successfully completed the Basic Training Refresher (NOREMI-68) course will satisfy the continued competency requirements for STCW Basic Training in STCW, as amended 2010, Basic Training in Section A-VI/1, 46 CFR 11.302(e) and 46 CFR 12.602(e), AND, all of the tasks from the National Assessment Guidelines found in NVIC 08-14.

Applicants are not required to present completed record of assessment sheets when applying for the STCW endorsement.


DOMINICA
This Basic Training Refresher Course is approved by the Commonwealth of Dominica Maritime Administration meeting STCW Section VI/1 for basic training, for mariners who can provide evidence of 1 year of sea time in the last 5 years. Examinations can be completed online using our approved HALO Exams application. Information on HALO registration is available at the end of the online content. You will receive 3 attempts for each exam. If you fail all 3 attempts of an exam, you must pay a retake fee of $25.00 for that exam.

  • General Physical Fitness for Practical Demonstration
  • Ability to swim
  • Completion of a full Basic Training program in last five years

Assessments

Written Examination
This course consists of one written exam – Basic Training. This exam contains 80 questions and requires a 70% passing score. The written exam can be taken online through HALO° Exams. You will receive 3 attempts for your exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must pay a retake fee of $25.00.

Practical Assessment

  • U.S. Licenses
    Two days of practical assessments are required at Northeast Maritime Institute and its partner fire training academy, or at an approved NEMO° Facility location, per USCG approval guidelines.   • International Licenses
