This course meets the Watchkeeping and Standard Marine Communication Phrases training requirements. This course focuses on introducing the candidate to the proper Watchkeeping functions and on taking action to avoid close quarters situations in accordance with the COLREGS.

USCG
This USCG approved online course meets the Watchkeeping and SMCP training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(ix) for an STCW endorsement as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of 500 or more gross tonnage (ITC) and 46 CFR 11.319(a)(4)(iii) for an STCW endorsement as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of less than 500 gross tonnage (ITC); AND, the relevant practical assessments from NVIC 12-14 (Ch-6) Guidelines On Qualifications For Officer In Charge Of A Navigational Watch on Vessels of 500 GT or More; NVIC 02-18 Guidelines on Qualifications for Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on Vessels less than 500 GT; AND NVIC 13-14 (CH-2) Guidelines on Qualifications for Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on Vessels of less than 500 GT.

The course also fulfills the following USCG NVIC Tasks:

  • NVIC 12-14 (Ch-6) Guidelines On Qualifications For Officer In Charge Of A Navigational Watch on Vessels of 500 GT or More: 2.1.A-2.1.G, 2.2A – 2.2E, 2.4A. 2.5A, 2.6A, 7.1, 12.1A and 12.2A; AND
  • NVIC 13-14 for Master or Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) of Vessels of Less Than 500 GT Limited to Near-Coastal Waters tasks 2.1A – 2.1G, 2.2A – 2.2F, 2.4A. 2.5A, 2.6A , 7.1A, 7.2A; AND
  • NVIC 02-18 for Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) of Vessels of Less Than 500 GT Tasks 2.1A – 2.1 G, 2.2A – 2.2E, 2.4A, 2.5A, 2.6A, 7.1, 12.1A & 12.2A.


Dominica

This online course meets the Watchkeeping and Standard Marine Communication Phrases training requirements of the STCW Code, Table A-II/1 as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of 500 or more gross tonnage (ITC) and of the STCW Code, Table A-II/3 as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of less than 500 gross tonnage (ITC).

Assessments

Written Examination
This course consists of one written exam: Watchkeeping and Standard Marine Communication Phrases. This exam contains 25 questions and requires a 70% passing score. The written exam can be taken online through HALO° Exams. You will receive 3 attempts for your exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must pay a retake fee of $50.00.

Practical Assessment
The course includes online content and online examination through HALO Exam Monitoring System, but requires a 1 day, on-site simulator session to complete the required STCW practical assessments.
