The course provides the necessary theory, exam and practical demonstrations required for an endorsement as a Lifeboatman. The class is offered in lieu of the Coast Guard exam.

The objectives of this course are to provide the necessary background and knowledge of the subjects for Proficiency in Survival Craft, lifeboats, rescue boats and liferafts. Upon completion of the online portion of the course, assessments and exam, the student will receive a certificate of completion meeting the requirements of the STCW Code Section A-VI/2 and A-VI/2-1.

Topics Include
Liferafts, Lifeboats, Davits, Safety Procedures and Survival.

Duration
This online course is based on a 40 hour in-person course.

USCG
Any applicant who has successfully completed your Proficiency in Survival Craft (Blended) (NOREMI-887) course will satisfy the competency requirements of Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW, as amended 2010, for Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC) and will satisfy the professional examination and practical demonstration requirements of 46 CFR 12.407(b)(3) for endorsements for Lifeboatman and PSC. Applicants are not required to present completed record of assessment sheets when applying for the STCW endorsement.


Dominica
This courses meets the requirements of STCW’95 Section A-VI/2 and Table A-VI/2-1.

Assessments

Written Examination
This course consists of one written exam: Proficiency in Survival Craft Lifeboatman. The exam contains 50 questions and requires a 70% passing score. The written exam can be taken online through HALO° Exams. You will receive 3 attempts for your exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must pay a retake fee of $50.00.

Practical Assessment
Practical assessments include launching and recovering a lifeboat, demonstrating oar commands, rowing a lifeboat and starting and stopping a lifeboat engine.

  • U.S. Licenses
    A one-day session is required to complete the practical demonstrations with our full-size lifeboat and davits. On-site practical assessments are required per USCG approval guidelines.   • International Licenses
    Required assessments may be completed in-person at Northeast Maritime Institute or an approved NEMO° Partner Facility location, or by using the NEMO° approved Training Record Book. If using the Training Record Book, assessments supplied in the course must be completed and signed off by an STCW licensed Master/Mate onboard a vessel of 500 Gross Tons or more.
