This online course covers the required material for mariners needing an Advanced Firefighting course to qualify for an officer’s license or certification and covers the theoretical and practical requirements set forth in STCW Regulation A/VI/3.

(This STCW course is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Dominica Maritime Administration.)

There is a 1-day in person assessment that is required to complete the course.

Learning Objectives
This course identifies and explains various topics including:  

  • Control firefighting operations aboard ships  
  • Organize and train fire parties.  
  • Inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment.  
  • Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire. 

Duration
This online blended course is based on a 32 hour in-person course. Course work and final exam are completed online.  There is a 1-day in person assessment that is required to complete the course.

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Advanced Fire Fighting (Blended) (NOREMI-947) course will satisfy:

  • The Advanced Fire Fighting training requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(h) and 11.303(a); AND
  • The standards of competence required by STCW Code Section A-VI/3 and Table A-VI/3, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 09-14(Ch-1)

Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed “Task Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification.


DOMINICA
This course satisfies the Advanced Fire Fighting training requirements of Section A-VI/3 and Table A-VI/3 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010.

Written Examination
This course consists of one written exam – Advanced Fire Fighting. This exam contains 18 questions and requires a 70% passing score. The written exam can be taken online through HALO° Exams. You will receive 3 attempts for your exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must pay a retake fee of $50.00.
