This course meets the Watchkeeping and Standard Marine Communication Phrases training requirements. This course focuses on introducing the candidate to the proper Watchkeeping functions and on taking action to avoid close quarters situations in accordance with the COLREGS.

Approvals

USCG
Any applicant who has successfully completed your Watchkeeping (Blended) (NOREMI-983) course will satisfy:

  • The Watchkeeping, including COLREGS and Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP), training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a) (4)(ix) and 11.319(a)(4)(iii) for STCW endorsement as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) (Operational Level); AND
  • The Watchkeeping, including COLREGS and SMCP, standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.309(a)(3) and 11.319(a)(3); STCW Code Section A-II/1 and Table A-II/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVICs 12-14(Ch-4) and 02-18 Tasks 2.1.A, 2.1.B, 2.1.C, 2.1.D, 2.1.E, 2.1.F, 2.1.G, 2.2.A, 2.2.B, 2.2.C, 2.2.D, 2.2.E, 2.4.A, 2.5.A, 2.6.A, 7.1, 12.1.A, 12.2.A; 12.3.A AND
  • NVIC 13-14(Ch-3) Tasks 2.1.A-2.1.G, 2.2.A-2.2.F, 2.4.A, 7.1.A, 7.2.A.

Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed Task Control Sheets for these assessments in application for STCW certification.


Dominica

This online course meets the Watchkeeping and Standard Marine Communication Phrases training requirements of the STCW Code, Table A-II/1 as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of 500 or more gross tonnage (ITC) and of the STCW Code, Table A-II/3 as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of less than 500 gross tonnage (ITC).

Assessments

Written Examination
This course consists of one written exam: Watchkeeping and Standard Marine Communication Phrases. This exam contains 25 questions and requires a 70% passing score. The written exam can be taken online through HALO° Exams. You will receive 3 attempts for your exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must pay a retake fee of $50.00.

Practical Assessment
The course includes online content and online examination through HALO Exam Monitoring System, but requires a 1 day, on-site simulator session to complete the required STCW practical assessments.
