Endorsement Requirements
Mariners holding an endorsement that authorizes service as a mate on an inspected vessel of 200 GRT or more are qualified to be issued Master 100 for the same route without additional service or examination. This includes the holders of C/M, 2nd Mate, 3rd Mate, Mate LT 1,600 GRT, Mate LT 500 GRT, C/M OSV, Mate OSV and Mate T/V.
- Raise of Grade $95 evaluation fee and $45 issuance fee still required.
- Master 100 GRT will not be issued for oceans, only NC.
- COLREGS restriction will carry over to Master 100 (for Great Lakes / Inland)
- Trade restrictions of OSV and T/V will not be endorsed.
Recency
90 days in the past 3 years on vessels. Experience gained in the engine department on vessels of appropriate tonnage may be creditable for up to 90 days of the service requirements
720 days of service in the deck department on Ocean, Near Coastal or Great Lakes waters, OF WHICH, service on inland waters may substitute for up to 360 days of the total required service.
NOTE:
Any service will be credited as follows:
- Service on GL will be credited day for day.
- Service on vessels to which STCW applies (inland or NC) will be credited day for day.
Great Lakes
360 total days of service in the deck department, OF WHICH, 90 days of service on Great Lakes.
Inland
360 days of service on any waters, in any department or position.
100 GRT
- 180 days (25%) of service on vessels of 51 GRT or above, OR
- 360 days of service on vessels of 34 GRT or above. 11.422
50 GRT
- 180 days (25%) of service on vessels of 26 GRT or above, OR
- 360 days (50%) of service on vessels of 17 GRT or above
25 GRT
- 541 days (75%) or more for endorsement on vessels 5 GRT or less. OR
- 180 days (25%) or more on vessels 6-25 GRT, OR
- 360 days (50%) or more on vessels 1-16 GRT
(If mariner does not meet the tonnage calculation for 50 GRT or more he or she is eligible for 25 GRT)
100 GRT
- 90 days (25%) of service on vessels of 51 GRT or above, OR
- 180 days (50%) of service on vessels of 34 GRT or above.
50 GRT
- 90 days (25%) of service of vessels of 26 GRT or above, OR
- 180 days (50%) of service on vessels 17 GRT or above.
25 GRT
- 271 days (75%) or more for endorsement on vessels 5 GRT or less, OR
- 90 days (25%) of service on vessels of 1-25 GRT, OR
- 180 days (50%) of service on vessels 1-16 GRT.
(If mariner does not meet the tonnage calculation for 50 GRT or more he or she is eligible for 25 GRT)
Near Coastal
- Course completion certificate in lieu of Coast Guard examination
- Exam
- Note to EVAL: A person holding this endorsement may qualify for an STCW endorsement according to 11.315, 11.317, 11.319 and 11.321
Great Lakes / Inland
- Course completion certificate in lieu of Coast Guard examination
- Exam codes & credential testing comments entered in MMLD
- Exam scores entered in MMLD
Sail / Auxiliary Sail Optional)
- Near Coastal
- 360 days on sail or auxiliary sail vessels, and
- Complete CG Auxiliary Sail exam module or approved Auxiliary Sail course
- Great Lakes / Inland
- 180 days on sail or auxiliary sail vessels
- Complete CG exams or approved course
Assistance Towing (Optional)
- Complete CG Assistance Towing exam module or approved Assistance Towing course.
