Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW)

Upon successful completion of this course, seafarers will obtain the knowledge to carry out a watch routine appropriate to the duties of a rating forming part of an engine-room watch and to understand orders and be understood in matters relevant to watchkeeping duties.

This course is for individuals looking for a non-U.S. license, as it is not a USCG-approved course.

(This STCW course is approved by the Dominica Maritime Administration.)

Duration
This online course is based on a 30 hour in-person course.

Dominica
This online courses meets the mandatory minimum requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency in table A-III/4 STCW Code for the function Marine Engineering at the Support Level.

The online course covers the background knowledge and practical work to support:

  • contributing to a safe engineering watch;
  • communicating with the officer of the watch
  • using internal communication systems;

The course will also satisfy 4 of the 6 months minimum sea-time requirements for certification as a Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch.

Assessments

Written Examination
This course consists of one written exam: Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW). This exam contains 20 questions and requires a 70% passing score. The written exam can be taken online through HALO° Exams. You will receive 3 attempts for your exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must pay a retake fee of $50.00.

Practical Assessment

  • International Licenses
    The mandatory assessments supplied in the course must be completed and signed off by an STCW licensed Engineer Officer onboard a vessel of 750 kW or more using the approved Training Record Book.
