The course covers the following topics required for a Master less than 100 gross tons beyond those covered in an OUPV course: Vessel Nomenclature and Stability, Weather, Safety, Law & Administration, Seamanship, Navigation, Cargo Handling and Tides & Currents.
The 50-question multiple choice exam meets the USCG requirements for the Upgrade to Master 100 gross tons, near coastal examination requirements. Some exam questions may include subject matter covered in the OUPV course or knowledge you should have as the holder of an OUPV license. A pool of review questions is available at the end of the course.
This course is delivered on NEMO°, our learning management system followed by the final examination being administered in our USCG approved HALO Examination software. You will receive 3 attempts for your exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must pay a retake fee of $50.00.
Pre-requisites: Completion of a USCG approved OUPV (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels) course or possession of a USCG OUPV license.
The course satisfies all examination requirements for upgrade of a merchant mariner credential from OUPV Near Coastal, or Great Lakes and Inland, or Inland Waters to a credential of Master of Vessels of less than 100 gross registered tons upon Near Coastal, or Great Lakes & Inland, or Inland Waters; OR, increase the scope of a credential of Master of Vessels of less than 100 gross registered tons upon Great Lakes and Inland, or Inland Waters to Master of Vessels of less than 100 gross registered tons upon Near Coastal Waters. The course completion certificate issued upon successful completion of this course is valid for one application which results in the issuance of an endorsement(s) and may not be used thereafter for application transactions.
